2Lt. John Claude Haye DCLI Killed in Action 20/05/1940 aged 30
With a poem written in memory of him by G.E.Reddaway, a fellow Cornishman.
The original poem hangs in The Regimental Museum, The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, The Keep, Bodmin - Cornwall. This copy of the poem with the added small 1913 photo of John (Jack) Claude, with his Grandfather, was a precious memento kept by his Mother, until her dying day.
The epitaph on Jack's gravestone, " His was a heart that held its life-blood cheap to shed in England's cause ", is a quote from the first few lines of the poem.
With special thanks to, and for Nicola Haye, and for his nephew Tony Gladstone, and their Families in the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, and Australia.
2nd/Lt Gordon Edgar Roberts Medway 22/05/1940 aged 19
