Sgt Harold Lindsay Wilcox 17/03/1917 aged 25
On the day of his death the 23rd battalion were the first into Bapaume following the retreating Germans. He and six men of his platoon were sent to "detail snipers" at the cemetery. He was "issuing his last orders to a corporal" (Gregory?) "when an H.E shell exploded near the gate". He was wounded and died shortly after.
There are conflicting reports as to how Betts died, some say that only 3 were killed by the blast and that Betts was shot through the head by a sniper. Others say all 4 were killed by the blast.
