Cpl John Edward Newland 04/09/1944 aged 32
John was motorcyclist, he was killed by a German grenade.
A commitmant opposed 250 Germans posted along the boulevard of Lessines, at crossing road of Wannebecq, to the local resistance (group G, AS IF and PA).
The British tanks were called in from the road Frasne and the road of l'Abattoir.
Equipped with an anti-aircraft gun, about 15 Germans, a resistant PA (Augustine FIERON) and John were killed.
This spot is not far of John's grave.
