Gnr George Lees 16/10/1918 aged 29
George was born in Bloxwich to Isaac and Jane Lees of 152, Parker Street, Bloxwich, his father being a coal miner and afterwards a bricklayer’s labourer.
Resident at 7, Hospital Street, Walsall, George was employed as a baker by Mr Foster of Cannock.
He enlisted in the Army at Cannock and saw 2 years service at the front.
He was wounded in action and succumbed to his injuries.
At the time of his death his battery of 18 pounder guns was supporting an attack on Haussy being made by the 24th Division.
The War Diary records:
“16 October 1918 - Hostile barrage again fell down from 4am onwards, chiefly on battery area. “B” had many casualties.”

2nd/Lt Edward Albert Newland 22/02/1889 - 23/10/1918
Edward was born in Hampstead, to James Edward Newland and Ada Louise (nee Breeze).
He married Amy Florence Burn in 1911 in Romford, Essex, and they had three children: Amy Dorothy (1912), Winifred (1914) and Kenneth Edward (1916).
For his granddaughter Barbara Oates, (nee Newland) and family.
