Pte John Collins kiA 09/10/1914 aged 34
John real's name was Martin Cooley.
Martin appears on all official records as ‘John Collins’ yet his correct name appears to be Martin Cooley.
Although the Walsall War Memorial and local newspapers records refer to him as Cooley, his service number, date of death and regiment all refer to John Collins.
Martin enlisted in the Army and served in the South African War and upon leaving the service found employment as a polisher.
He was a married man with a baby girl, Florence, and resided at 39, Dudley Street, Walsall.
When mobilised he was drafted to France on Monday 14/09/1914 with the Worcestershire Rgt.

Rfm Charles John Dutton 23/09/1914 aged 19
The son of Thomas and Edith Dutton of 4, Burleigh Street, Walsall and later of 33, Vincent Street, Caldmore.
Charles’s father was a carter on the London and North Western Railway with at least 28 years service.
He was drafted to France on Thursday 13/08/1914.
Charles was wounded in action during Monday 21/09/1914 and removed to the Australian Voluntary Hospital in St. Nazaire where he succumbed to his wounds two days later.
