Private Arthur Linley Bletcher 124857, Machine Gun Corps
Arthur was born 30th September 1889.
He attended Rotherham Feofees School.
He was called up to join the York's and Lancs, but in October 1917 he was transferred
to 276 Company Machine Gun Corps were he served
in Mesopotamia, he was one of the few that survived from this unit.
In 1921 he married and had 2 daughters. Arthur owned
an Off-Licence/Tobacconist shop on the corner of Green Arbour Road, Thurcroft,
Rotherham where he was a well respected member of the community.
He died in 1954 aged 66.
Arthur's best friend, Private John Dyson Allison died 07/09/1916 and is buried in Lonsdale Cemetery (Authuile, Somme)
Arthur's grandson, Michael's wife, Sharon Evans has
also lost her great grand father, Private Willam Henry James Watson 16/03/1916
who is commemorated in Loos
